The Technical University of Košice, Slovakia

The Technical University of Košice was established in 1952 to serve the needs of Eastern Slovakia for education and research and we are proud of its connections with the origin of technical university education in Slovakia founded by the Empress Maria Theresa.
At present the university has nine faculties, about 12,000 full-time students and it provides courses in technical sciences, economics and art. It is a place of rich scientific, cultural, sporting and social life.
The TU of Košice is also an important partner for a number of foreign universities all over Europe, it is involved in many international projects funded mostly by the European Commission within EU programmes.

The Technical University of Košice cooperates with national and international institutions at local, regional, national and international levels. The university is also involved in local and regional development. The university has been the coordinator of several projects such as TEMPUS, Leonardo da Vinci, CEEPUS, COST, COPERNICUS. The Centre for Regional Development has been established to cooperate with local and regional authorities.
The Department of Languages consists of two sections: English and German. The department offers English, German, French and Russian classes as well and Slovak for foreign students. Based on the tradition the department provides language tuition in the framework of bachelor and master level of study for all the faculties of the Technical University. It administers the TOEFL tests.
The languages are taught at intermediate and advanced levels.

The department staff is involved in the following approved European projects:


• within the framework of the Leonardo da Vinci programme the project AGROLANG in cooperation with the partners from the United Kingdom, Germany, Poland, Belgium, Spain and Italy developing English and German textbooks for Agrotourism


• the department is the coordinator of the Leonardo da Vinci project EDORCO, focused on the development of the communicative competences for power engineering experts


• the language portfolio has been tested within the framework of the UNICERT project


• CALL – Online courseware for learners of Czech and Slovak
